For Those Who Wander
SafeEncounter’s mission is to return vulnerable individuals home safely in times of emergency. Wandering is an extremely common symptom of cognitive disorders, intellectual disabilities, and severe mental health issues. From children to senior citizens, loved ones with these medical conditions are at risk of getting lost. SafeEncounter allows family members to create a profile for free on the database that is then accessible to the district’s police department.
If an individual wanders away from home, law enforcement can refer to the database to identify the individual, learn more about any health conditions, prepare for how they react to various triggers, and pinpoint popular locations they frequent.
Who is Eligible?
Districts and states can determine their eligibility requirements per system. SafeEncounter was designed specifically for those who have communication-based health issues. In times of crisis, these people cannot always provide police with information they need, so the SafeEncounter database can be used in lieu of verbal conversation. Conditions that SafeEncounter can be most useful for include Alzheimer’s Dementia, Down’s Syndrome, Autism, Schizophrenia, and Severe Bipolar Disorder.
With comprehensive dependent profiles, loved ones can create a profile on behalf of a dependent and provide critical information to help police identify and take care of a found person. Profiles give users the option to include:
- Photos of the dependent
- Medical conditions/history
- Common places they may wander to
- Emergency contact information
- Physical description
- Information about how to safely deescalate a situation
- Triggers and Symptoms
- And more
